![]() ![]() I only wish they could have added a few things which I know Unknown Worlds have confirmed they will not add such as weather and multiplayer. Overall, Subnautica is a great game that I have sinked hours into, finished and replayed and after 50 hours I can say that I have exhausted myself enough to put this game away for now until Unknown Worlds does an update or releases some DLC The music and sound effects (especially when you hear the nearby enemies) is asbolutely stunning, now I noticed that the game is getting some hate (end of January-beginning of February 2018) because Unknown Worlds fired the sound designer of Subnautica over something he/she said, now I don't know the full story however I can assure you that it will not effect my review in any way shape or form The constant popping in of the environment, the constant dips in framerate (running on high) whereas other games such as Wolfenstein II can run on Ultra and the sometimes freezing of the game when you are trying to fragment something massive such as the Cyclops is a bit of a let down and ruins the immersion However, the game does show that it struggles in certain areas and that Unknown Worlds pushed the game's engine to it's absolute limit The game's graphics are gorgeous and I was absolutely gobsmacked when I found out this game was developed on the Unity engine. Thankfully, this game does hold your hand in certain parts, such as where your lifepod is, Seamoth, Cyclops, PRAWN Suit, Base (if you have a beacon) and so on, so it's not all bad The constant back and forth gameplay of gathering resources, going back to your base/lifepod and fragmenting a new item can be tiresome and boring, also, the biomes in this game are massive and you are liable to get lost, especially if you don't have any beacons This game is also not for people who do not like survival games. The amount of times I started crying after encountering one of the creatures of the deep was absolutely nightmarish The deep dark waters are menacing, terrifying and pitch black. It can also include fear of the unknown, of what lurks beneath, will have nightmares for days with this game. People who might (like me) have Thalassophobia, the fear of the ocean and can include fear of being in large bodies of water, fear of the vast emptiness of the sea, and fear of distance from land. Especially people, like me, who are terrified of the deep. Survival games are normally not my thing but what kept me playing Subnautica for over 50 hours was it's interesting yet oddly twisting story (believe me, the amount of wikis and videos I watched to try and grasp the main plotline was ludicrous), the base building and the fear of the unknown The planet is filled with fauna, creatures both harmful to you and some that are indifferent to you, strange caves, abandoned bases with people who might have been here before you, strange alien-like buildings and terrors of the deep including the terrifying Ghost Leviathan and many more Your task is to gather up rescources, build a base, manage and sustain your wellbeing and build a rocket that will send you home. You open up your hatch and discover that you are now on an alien planet known only to you as planet 4546B You crash land on an alien planet and you are one of the lucky survivors who managed to get off the spacesgip just in time and that your lifepod managed to sustain the crash, unlike some. I bought it because of it's interesting story, you basically play an unknown character aboard the ship owned by Alterra, the same people that make guns and ammunition for the soldiers in the Natural Selection series So you might ask, why the hell did I buy it in the first place. I have to admit, this game is f**king terrifying and plus, I HATE THE SEA! I HATE IT, I HATE IT, I HATE IT! I have been following Subnautica way back when it was first announced and even though I did not buy it when it first came out, I followed it extensively and I must say that many other developers should follow what Unknown Worlds did in terms of Early Access This game is a beautiful, gorgeous yet terrifying world. ![]() Subnautica is a game developed and published by Unknown Worlds Entertainment, the same people behind the Natural Selection series DISCLAIMER: This is a full review, and NOT a first impressions review ![]()
